"A truly milestone event." -Mike McKinstry, CEO, Social Traders

The Victorian Government is leading the charge for social enterprise in Australia.

In 2017, it launched the very first Social Enterprise Strategy in the country. Building on the strong foundation of its first strategy, the Government released its next phase in October 2021.

Social Enterprise Strategy 2021-2025 focuses on four themes:

  1. Building business skills and capability and capturing impact
  2. Enhancing recognition and access to innovative financing to scale impact
  3. Fostering a connected and innovative social enterprise ecosystem across Victoria
  4. Opening doors for social enterprises across government.

Social Traders Chief Executive Officer, Mike McKinstry said "the next phase of the Strategy has been the culmination of many months of input and co-design with Government and key passionate experts and colleagues from within the sector.

"On behalf of Social Traders, it has been a privilege to be part of such a collaborative group under the leadership of the Hon. Jane Garrett, and so well supported and guided by all of the team at the Department of Jobs Regions and Precincts.

"The launch of this strategy by Minister Pulford continues the Victorian Government’s leadership in recognizing the importance of the social enterprise sector in Australia, and acts as a beacon for other state governments who are now following.
