This award honours organisations excelling in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. It recognises those integrating sustainable strategies, positively impacting society, and upholding ethical governance and practices.

About this award

While organisations are focussing on environmental reporting in ESG, we know many of you are doing great work in the “Social” in ESG. This award recognises those who in addition to Environment, are doing and reporting on their social performance initiatives - demonstrating how your business contributes positively to the well-being of society and ensuring robust and ethical governance and internal practices.

Awarded to a business or government member that can demonstrate achievements two or more (one must be social) of the below areas:

Environment: the organisation can demonstrate evidence of targeted (or intentional) efforts to minimise or mitigate their organisation’s impact on the environment/environmental footprint such as:

  • Climate change and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)
  • Air pollution (non-GHG)
  • Water management
  • Waste and hazardous-materials management; circularity
  • Biodiversity and ecosystems health

Social: The organisation can provide evidence of active involvement in and contribution to the people impacted through its business operations, workforce, supply chains, and community involvement.

Organisations can demonstrate their social impact by providing evidence of their commitment to:

  • Supplier diversity
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Health & safety
  • Community engagement; diversity and inclusion
  • Community relations, local economic contribution
  • Product and service attributes

Governance: the organisation can demonstrate evidence of transparency, accountability, board diversity, clear and comprehensive reporting on ESG performance, and adherence to high ethical standards in corporate behaviour and business operations.

Key aspects could include:

  • Business ethics; data security
  • Capital allocations, supply chain management
  • Governance structure and accountability
  • Policies and Compliance: anti-bribery, corruption and reporting

How are the Awards judged?
  • The Social Traders team will rank their submission based on each criteria item response, out of ten.
  • The short-listed applicants will be reviewed by the involved social enterprise networks.
  • The winners will be selected based on those who demonstrate the most impactful responses to the criteria.
