Nando’s ANZ recognised the potential of social procurement to improve operational standards at their restaurants and to fulfill their brand mission of 'changing lives, together' by supporting their local communities. Understanding that not all social enterprises possess national reach, they forged multiple place-based partnerships with various social enterprises.
In Victoria, Nando’s collaborated with social enterprise Cleanable. Together, they developed a robust program enhancing operational standards in window cleaning and plant care services across Nando's Victorian restaurants. Beyond service enhancement, this initiative opened avenues for employment for community members experiencing barriers to work. Notably, Nando’s facilitated Cleanable's expansion into plant care services, an area they had not previously worked in. Impressed by Cleanable's performance, Nando’s broadened the partnership to encompass plant sourcing for restaurant renovations and new constructions.
Building on the success in Victoria, and with the support of Social Traders, Nando’s joined forces with another certified social enterprise, Green Connect, working together to build a similar scope of works in their New South Wales establishments.
Looking ahead, Nando’s endeavours to replicate this success across other states and territories, fostering localised social procurement partnerships with certified social enterprises. Through such collaborations, they aim to improve operational standards at their restaurants and bolster local job opportunities.
