The theme of this week’s Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) seems apt.
SEWF is taking place in Hong Kong a frontier and hub for open market exchange, trade and enterprise. Hong Kong continues to show its true colours, embracing the power of social enterprise within its already vibrant and diverse economy through its hosting of the ninth consecutive international gathering of social enterprise.
Opening new markets is amongst the biggest opportunities for social enterprises to realise their full impact in our economies. Over the next two days, my colleague Mark Daniels and I will have the opportunity to share progress being made in Australia to open up consumer, business and government markets to social enterprise. We will be sharing initiatives introduced ‘Down Under’ including:
- GOOD SPENDER, an online marketplace for Australian social enterprises to reach new consumers to sell their products, developed in partnership between Australia Post and Social Traders; and
- Social Traders’ Connect, a new procurement service that links certified social enterprise suppliers with business and government buyers.
The theme of SEWF’16: New Frontiers, New Markets aligns closely with a key strategic focus and priority of Social Traders – to open new market opportunities for social enterprise. Mark and I look forward to sharing and learning with the 1,000 plus delegates attending the conference from 24 countries around the world.
