63 Australian social enterprises have been announced as successful recipients of the Social Enterprise World Forum Australian Bursary Fund.
Designed to provide assistance to support Australian social enterprise leaders attend the Social Enterprise World Forum in New Zealand later this year, the successful applicants will receive a bursary to the approx. value of AUD$2,000 – covering flights, accommodation and Forum attendance.
As part of their contribution at the Forum the recipients will participate in a series of facilitated networking events to encourage and build the next cohort of future social enterprise leaders.
“We received a terrific amount of interest for the Bursary Fund applications and are really pleased that through this process we’re able to provide such a unique learning and networking opportunity for the next wave of Australia’s future social enterprise leaders,” Said David Brookes, Managing Director, Social Traders.
The Australian Bursary Fund application period ran from April 26 to May 26 and received 105 applications from across Australia, with 40% of applicants coming from Victoria. National research – Finding Australia’s Social Enterprise Sector 2016 – found the majority of social enterprise respondents were seeking a more cohesive social enterprise ecosystem with enhanced networking and development opportunities.
Hosted in Christchurch New Zealand between the 27-29 September, the annual international Social Enterprise World Forum invites the best and brightest social enterprises from around the world to come together, share wisdom, build networks and discuss how to create a more socially inclusive future.
Social Traders in partnership with the English Family Foundation, Philanthropy Australia and NZ-based Ākina Foundation created the Australian Bursary Fund with the generous support of numerous donors that include: The Ian Potter Foundation, English Family Foundation, Equity Trustees, Victorian Government, Queensland Government, Vasudhara Foundation, The Snow Foundation, Wheelton Philanthropy, Marist 180, Kofi Foundation, the Hunt Family Foundation, , the Stuart Fox Family Foundation and the Wise Foundation.
