Food Skil, now 2&5, aims to address the problem of food insecurity in the Geelong region, vparticularly in areas such as Norlane and Corio. These are areas of significant socioeconomic disadvantage and residents have been identified as being at risk of food insecurity. Food insecurity broadly refers to the poor accessibility and affordability of sustainable and healthy food.
The Food Skil business model aims to incorporate all aspects of the value chain: production, processing, storage and retail distribution of fresh vegetables and fruits. A biodynamic market garden and a community orchard will be established for the growing of fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables which in turn will be distributed through the fresh food shops that will be established in designated need areas. One of these outlets will encompass the processing and storage facilities.
