The social purpose of Pakana Services is to create employment opportunities for Aboriginal Australians, initially in the South of Tasmania through the development of a land management service. The Aboriginal community in the region has a strong interest in ‘managing country’, particularly with more parcels of land being returned.
The business model incorporates the provision of contracting services in conservation, land management and maintenance (specialising in areas of high Aboriginal cultural value). Target customers will include State and local governments and their contractors, and conservation organisations.
