OpMarket aims to provide a platform for connecting potential customers with Opportunity Shops nationwide. OpMarket recognises that Op Shops enrich the social, economic and environmental fabric of Australian society. They raise money for charity, recycle quality goods destined for landfill and provide volunteer and work-experience opportunities. They also offer a unique and engaged shopping experience unlike that found in an increasingly homogenous retail landscape. However, one of the primary obstacles to the future growth of Op Shops is the increasing competition from online retailers.

OpMarket will provide a dedicated online ecommerce and marketing platform to Op Shops for them to engage with potential customers whilst increasing their profile. OpMarket will conduct ongoing marketing campaigns to attract customers to the site and build an online community bringing customers together with Op Shops.

A limited trial with selected stores in Melbourne is planned to launch in February 2014 and will run concurrently with The Crunch. The insights gained from this program will be used to design a website andmobile app system that is easy to use and cost-effective.

Unlike traditional ecommerce sites, OpMarket will provide a unique shopping experience that reflects the fun and discovery that is vital to the appeal of Op Shopping. This will enable Op Shops to take advantage of the opportunities in the online marketplace to maximise the funds they are able to raise for their social causes.
