Bright Sparks aims to provide a better future for generations of Victorians by reducing the amount of electrical waste discarded in Melbourne, decreasing the amount of waste going to landfill and consequently reducing the risk of contamination.
Bright Sparks identifies that consumers are confused about what to do with their electrical items when they break down – with the most popular option being to throw them in the rubbish bin as most people lack the skills to safely repair their own electrical items.
Bright Sparks will step in and repair discarded, broken electrical items to keep them out of landfill whilst building a market for refurbished electrical items and providing training in electrical repairs.
The project is modelled after an existing social enterprise in London, called Bright Sparks, comprising a workshop, retail shop and reuse centre.
