The Crunch is Social Traders’ highly successful initiative for early stage social enterprises aiming to be investment-ready and start trading within 12 months of completing the program.
Do you have an idea for a social enterprise that will generate community benefit through trading and want to be a part of a program to make it happen?
Through a six month intensive incubation process, The Crunch enterprises:
- build enormous individual business capacity,
- develop a rigorous business plan,
- establish a network of mentor support, and
- gain exposure to a range of social investors.
In its first three years, The Crunch enabled eleven new social enterprises to access around $2m in investment and start operating. A further three enterprises have investment offers pending and are likely to start trading in 2014.
These new enterprises are delivering substantial benefits to disadvantaged individuals and communities throughout Victoria, as well as addressing pressing environmental concerns.
The Crunch Round 5 will run from February to September 2015. Read below for more information.
The Crunch (Sydney):
On 26 November, Social Traders and J.P. Morgan hosted youthCANwork. It was an inspirsing day where we discussed the impact youth unemployment has on the individual, the family, and the community. We discussed solutions to meaningful, sustained employment, and we selected four social enterprises who, sponsored by J.P. Morgan, will go through The Crunch Sydney in 2015.

We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the interest in the community for developing strong and sustainable social enterprise. However, applications for The Crunch in 2015 in Melbourne are now closed.
