Prominent community enterprise worker Jill Jordan passes away
It was announced on January 9th 2010 that Jill Jordan, the "legend of Frogs' Hollow" and foundation member of many of Maleny's co-operative ventures passed away in Bowen on Friday 8th January, 2010.
"Jill originally trained as a psychologist and began community and local economic development work in her community of Maleny in 1978. Jill specialised in “community start-ups”, both for community groups and community enterprises, travelling inter-state and overseas to assist communities, to speak at conferences and to give workshops.
Jill became an elected Councillor on Caloundra City Council in the early nineties, and was subsequently employed by the Local Government Association of Queensland as its inaugural Cultural Development Facilitator in 1994."
Jill worked extensively with State Government, Councils and community groups on developing community, local economic and cultural development plans/strategies. Jill brought about and was involved in the creation of a number of cooperative ventures in Maleny, including the Maple Street Co-operative, Manduka Cooperative at Frog's Hollow, the Maleny and District Credit Union, LEED Cooperative and The UpFront Club.
"Jill believed that community economic development and the resulting community skill-building is a powerful antidote to the trend towards globalisation, and to the alienation felt by many people who are not connected to the land or to others around them."
Jill played a very important role in the development of social enterprise in Maleney in Qld and beyond, and will be missed.
