New national partnership with Australia Post to open markets for social enterprise
On 19 February 2014, Australia Post announced Social Traders as one of their seven National Community Partners. The three year partnership will enable the creation of the first online marketplace for social enterprise products in Australia.
The Social Enterprise Marketplace will provide a unique platform for social enterprises to access new customers and raise their profile nationally. In addition to developing the online shop, the partnership with Australia Post includes a capacity development program that will enable Social Traders to work with social enterprises to build their product development, marketing and online sales capability.
The partnership builds on Social Traders strong relationship with Australia Post over the past four years. Australia Post is a foundation partner to ‘The Crunch’, Social Traders incubator program for start-up social enterprises.
Commenting on the value of this relationship, Managing Director of Social Traders, David Brookes said, “Australia Post’s online technology expertise and national marketing reach combined with Social Traders’ social enterprise know-how and networks are the building blocks for a great partnership that will result in significant benefits for local communities throughout Australia.”
The reach provided by Australia Post’s network will also generate market opportunities for social enterprise by accessing the broader public and educating them about the work of social enterprise. The online platform will allow consumers to engage with and understand the impact that buying from social enterprise can create.

The development of the Social Enterprise Marketplace fits with Social Traders’ strategic priorities of opening up market opportunities for social enterprises. Building on other initiatives including the SE FINDER and Good Gift campaign, the new platform promises to create avenues for social enterprises to promote their products to a much larger customer base.
Australia Post’s National Community Partners will work collaboratively with the community, government, business and the not-for-profit sectors to build healthier, stronger and more inclusive communities through Australia.Social Traders was selected because of its demonstrated community leadership and proven expertise in delivering community programs that build capability at both a local and national level.
Australia Post and Social Traders will commence developing the online platform in coming weeks. The Social Enterprise Marketplace will be officially launched later in 2014.
